The sophomore feature from writer/director Jeremy Saulnier, Green Room, has already hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles; the rest of us can finally see what all the buzz is about on April 29th. If it’s anything like his debut film, Blue Ruin, viewers can expect an unflinchingly brutal experience that pulls no punches, physically and emotionally. The fact that color features prominently in both titles speaks to a unique and identifiable aesthetic Saulnier has already established.
In Green Room, a touring punk band accidentally walks into an active murder scene after a gig. The ensuing showdown with a gang of ruthless neo-Nazis promises to be intensely violent and gruesome. In this latest clip, the gang’s leader, played by Patrick Stewart, warns: “Gentlemen, it won’t end well” and later, “Things have gone south, no doubt”.
For those of us who grew up watching Stewart as Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, it may be difficult seeing him as a villain of unusual cruelty! In addition to Stewart, Green Room stars: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Alia Shawkat.
