Twenty-three years before Daniel Radcliffe starred in the big screen remake, the original, small screen adaptation of Susan Hill’s Gothic novel, The Woman In Black, terrified television audiences. The film first aired on ITV in 1989, and in the years since, has become increasingly difficult to find. The DVD is long out of print and has been fetching hundreds of dollars on eBay.

The Woman In Black Synopsis
When a friendless old widow dies in the seaside town of Crythin Gifford, a young solicitor is sent in to settle her estate. Following cryptic warnings from the locals regarding the terrifying history of the old woman’s house, he soon begins to see visions of a menacing woman in black…
Herbert Wise (I, Claudius) directed the film. It stars Adrian Rawlins (Harry Potter franchise, Chernobyl), Pauline Moran (Byron), Bernard Hepton (Get Carter) and Andy Nyman.

Awesome news! I love this movie. It has one of the most terrifying scenes in movie history. You know the one. And in Widescreen!
I’m sad that my DVD is now worthless, but what can you do? Hopefully a North American release will follow. I just might have to invest in a region free Blu-ray player one of these days.
