It’s never easy giving up a house you love, no matter what the reason. A house holds our memories and special times with loved ones and sometimes the bad times as well… Dennis Quaid’s character in the new horror thriller, The Intruder knows this all too well.
Personally, I love horror thrillers and mysteries. They always give me the heebie jeebies and are my favorite to indulge in. The Intruder kind of looked like your average psycho next door, but with a twist… but would it deliver the suspenseful goods that I hoped for?
Directed by Deon Taylor and written by David Loughery. The cast includes Michael Ealy (The Perfect Guy), Meagan Good (Think Like a Man), Joseph Sikora (TV’s “Power”), and Dennis Quaid (A Dog’s Journey).
Synopsis for The Intruder
When a young married couple (Michael Ealy and Meagan Good) buys their dream house in the Napa Valley, they think they have found the perfect home to take their next steps as a family. But when the strangely attached seller (Dennis Quaid) continues to infiltrate their lives, they begin to suspect that he has hidden motivations beyond a quick sale.
The Intruder is like a mix of all your favorite home invasion/bad neighbor/obsessed psycho stories rolled into one. What makes this one different is that the “bad guy” isn’t your neighbor or friendly guy at the grocery market who is doing the stalking, instead it’s the guy who sold you your home… He can’t just let go. In reality, he was never really trying to giveaway is home, but rather was looking for the perfect partner to share his home with and would do just about anything to make that happen. Creepy, right? I’m not sure why LA Times called it a “reverse Get Out” because other than a mix of white and black characters, the story isn’t anything like Get Out, so don’t be fooled by that tagged line.
All of the performances are good, but Dennis Quaid knocks it out of the park. He plays creepy all too well – to the point where you almost feel like taking a hot shower to wash away all the ick. He comes off as a friendly, helpful guy who just wants the best for new couple moving into his home, but as with most thrillers… there’s a twist and everything he does is for his own advantage.
I enjoyed all of the special features but above all I really dug the alternate ending. I actually much preferred that little twist and think others will too. So make sure to check it out. Here are some of the other special features as well:
