I’m tempted to say this may be the year for La Llorona! We’ve got James Wan’s The Curse of La Llorona, which is part of his The Conjuring universe, coming out next week. There was a film, simply titled La Llorona, released by Filmmaker Patricia Harris Sealey and starring Machete’s Danny Trejo. Now we have The Haunting of La Llorona, which will release later this year from Alice in Murderland director Dennis Devine. PopHorror was lucky enough to get the first pics from the upcoming film, as well as some juicy details to boot. Read on for more!
From the press release:
The screams of the children echo throughout the night as a violent reminder of a demon of the past. La Llorona, a paranormal force, has returned and seeks the blood of the innocent, proving that the legend is real. From Producer David Sterling (Camp Blood franchise, Things 5: Strange Monsters 2017) and Executive Producer Gregory Hatanaka (Holy Terror 2017, Caged Beauty 2016), comes The Haunting Of La Llorona, a horror film about the legendary paranormal force. A Sterling Entertainment/CineRidge Entertainment Production released through Cinema Epoch.
Directed by Dennis Devine and written by Geno McGahee (Halloween Tales 2017, Satanic Meat Cleaver Massacre 2017), The Haunting Of La Llorona features a tremendous cast that bring this legend to life, including Kaylin Zerene (Deadpool The Musical 2 – Ultimate Disney Parody 2018) as Cassandra, a young woman terrorized by La Llorona. With help from Tiffany, played by Diana Acevedo (Killer Looks 2018), and her husband, Chad, played by Tyler Coleman, Cassandra seeks the courage to rid the world of La Llorona. Helping the cause is Father Gomez, played by Orlando McNary (Kissing Strangers 2010), the group goes head to head with the demon in an epic showdown.
Featuring the special effects of Joe Castro (Wishmaster franchise, Bonehill Road 2017 – read our review here), The Haunting Of La Llorona is not short on the blood and guts that the horror fans demand. Adding to the amazing directing of Devine and writing by McGahee is the cinematography of Nathan Voltran (Blindsided 2016), collectively creating a film that will be highly appreciated by horror fans. The film will be released by Cinema Epoch on Amazon Prime in late April, followed by other platforms in May.
