I’m talking about the badass remake from 1988! We’ve got some great news for fans of the cult classic. Scream Factory is bringing the 1988 version to Blu-ray with a host of special feature. Excited? So are we!

The Blob (1988) Synopsis
The Blob is back in this horrific tale about a vile, malignant life-form that crashes to Earth in a cozy, rural American town called Arborville. Untroubled by conscience or intellect, the Blob does only one thing – and it does it well. It eats anything and everything that moves: men, women, children. And tonight it wants to swallow the town of Arborville. The original version of The Blob thrilled and terrified audiences back in the 1950s. Now the oozing, gooey killer is back with a whole new high-tech look. What was once only suggested now comes to life with state-of-the-art special effects in the tradition of such thrilling remakes as The Thing and The Fly.
Chuck Russell directed the film and also wrote the screenplay with Frank Darabont. It stars Shawnee Smith, Kevin Dillon, Joe Senecca, and Candy Clark. TriStar released the film in August of 1988. It opened in 8th place en route to an $8.3 million domestic haul. While it disappointed at the box office, the film found new life and a much larger audience on cable and home video.

Terror has no shape! Chuck Russell’s incredibly underrated 1988 remake of THE BLOB is oozing its way to Scream Factory this Halloween. Here are the early details we have a current time to share.
- National street date for North America (Region A) is Oct 15th.
- This will be presented as a Collector’s Edition and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release.
- The newly commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Joel Robinson (Candyman, 10 to Midnight, In the Mouth of Madness). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork.
- Extras will be announced on a later date, but we can confirm that we have produced already a slew of them!
Pre-orders on our site begin today which includes the Blu-ray plus a rolled 18” x 24” poster of the new art. The poster is exclusive to us and will be made at a limited run of 500 pieces.

The Blob (1988) hits store shelves on October 29, 2019…just in time for Halloween! It is available for pre-order at the Shout Factory website and over on Amazon.
Final Thoughts
I absolutely LOVED The Blob when I saw it as a kid! A shining example of a horror remake done right. It’s nice to see this film finally get the special edition Blu-ray love it so richly deserves. Scream Factory always does amazing stuff, so you know this one is in good hands.
