Stephen King has a new novel coming out called The Outsider. It releases May 22nd to retailers everywhere (stay tuned for our upcoming review of the book). In advance of this main course, King released an appetizer. The horror master took to Twitter last week to tell fans of a new, free short fiction piece he wrote called Laurie, and we’ve got the details for you right here!
Check it out!
According to Stephen King’s website…
Stephen has written a new short story, Laurie, which is available now as a free download exclusively on stephenking.com. You may download and/or print the story for yourself or to pass along to others, but may not charge any money to share it.
King’s a busy guy, but he’s never too busy to take care of his fans. Laurie weighs in at about 32 pages. You can grab it from his website, as the blurb says, as long as you have a .pdf reader.
As for The Outsider, it comes out this week, too.
The Outsider Synopsis
An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.
As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King’s propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.
The Outsider will be available in both hardcover and Kindle editions on Amazon.
Very cool! I haven’t read Laurie yet, but I’ll probably check it out tonight before I go to bed. Hopefully it doesn’t give me nightmares! As for The Outsider, I need to snag a copy of that, too. Color me intrigued.
What do you think? Did you read King’s free short story? Have you pre-ordered your copy of The Outsider? Tell us in the comments!
