Horror comedies are one of my very favorite genres of horror movies. If a film can balance scares with laughs, then you can be sure I will want to check it out. Sometimes, the filmmakers even managed to get meta and call attention to the horror community at large, like in the Volumes of Blood franchise, #FromJennifer, Massacre on Aisle 12 and the ultimate horror comedy, Tucker and Dale vs Evil. This is the sweet little bloody niche where the 2018 film, Abnormal Attraction, falls. So, of course, I had to investigate further.
Abnormal Attraction takes place in a world where monsters and supernatural beasties are real. These monsters and us average humans are forced to coexist. Talk about the ultimate racism. As prejudice and insecurity pulls everyone apart, three separate storylines manage to come together.
This Fuzz on the Lens Production boasts some familiar faces, including but not limited to Malcolm McDowell, Tyler Made, Gilbert Gottfried, Leslie Easterbrook, Bruce Davison, Ron Jeremy, Eileen Dietz, Lesleh Donaldson, and a ton of other people I swear I recognize. Abnormal Attraction was directed by horror enthusiast Michael Leavy (upcoming Pennywise: The Story of IT documentary, The Wicked One 2017, Fear Clinic 2014). Michael teamed up with fellow Fuzz on the Lensers, younger brother Jason Leavy (Terrifier 2017) and Steven Della Salla (Halloween Awakening: The Legacy of Michael Myers 2012), to write the script. The fantastic monster makeup was created by a team effort headed by frequent Fuzz on the Lens alumna, Briana Calcagno (Pot Heads 2013, Catch of the Day 2013). These guys really do work well together.
Abnormal Attraction is making the festival rounds as we speak. After a world premiere on March 1st in NYC, they are now headed to HorrorHound, where the film will be featured as the Comedy Fright Midnight Movie on Friday, March 23rd.
