If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Ash vs. Evil Dead must be blushing. IFC’s Stan Against Evil wholeheartedly embraces the concept of an arrogant, flawed, disenchanted fish out of water doing battle against the forces of darkness. After a successful run in 2016, Stan returns to battle on IFC this Fall!
Stan Against Evil isn’t just an Ash copycat. It stands on its own merits, mostly on the strength of its lead John C. McGinley. If you’re not familiar with the show, here’s the synopsis from IFC…
Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller (McGinley), a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie Barret (Varney), the tough and beautiful new Sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right in their quaint New England town. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.
Stan Against Evil premiered on Halloween, 2016. The initial eight episode run set things up beautifully. Then? Season over! What are you trying to do to me, IFC? Hooray for Season 2!
Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Parks And Recreation) developed Stan Against Evil for IFC. In addition to McGinley, the cast includes the lovely Janet Varney as Sheriff Barret and the funny, quirky Deborah Baker Jr. as Stan’s daughter Denise. Season 1 is streaming on Hulu now if you need to catch up before the premiere.
The premiere! Right! Stan Against Evil returns to IFC November 1, 2017 for another eight episode run. Tune in at 10pm ET or set your DVRs!
