Word of a Sleepaway Camp reboot first began circulating back in April of 2015, but there hasn’t been much news sense. Recently, however, on the latest episode of the podcast The Movie Crypt, former New Line executive Jeff Katz announced that the wheels are spinning; he acquired the rights to the franchise back in 2013 and series creator Robert Hiltzik will produce. But don’t expect a reboot; the next Sleepaway installment will actually be a direct sequel to 1983’s original.
It turns out, Angela (played by Felissa Rose) has been in an insane asylum all these years: “You resolve her character while setting up the events of the new movie, which are tied directly to her and in a way which allows you to honor the original but spin off in an entirely new direction,” Katz explained.

In the original Sleepaway Camp: Angela Baker, a traumatized and very shy young girl, is sent to summer camp with her cousin. Shortly after her arrival, anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions gets their comeuppance.
No word yet on when this film will begin shooting. We’ll keep you posted.
