Scream Factory Unleashes ‘Man’s Best Friend’ on Blu-ray!

One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met at a horror con was Lance Henriksen. He is a total gentleman to his many fans, and is a legendary icon of cult cinema. He’s one of the few actors that ran the gamut between kickass mainstream films like the Alien franchise and absolutely awesome lower budget stuff like Pumpkinhead. He’s way more versatile than he gets credit for, and another of his slightly more obscure films, the 1993 film Man’s Best Friend, it getting a proper Blu-ray release from Scream Factory.

We all know that Cujo is the number one most well known killer dog film, but running a very close second is Man’s Best Friend. This flick took homicidal canines to a new level by throwing in some genetic enhancement and an intelligent blood lust. It was a video store staple that didn’t disappoint. I’m still haunted by the cat swallowing scene…

With a cast that also includes The Breakfast Club’s Ally Sheedy, Man’s Best Friend surprisingly did not have the staying power a film of this calibre deserves. Thankfully, that’s about to change. Scream Factory is releasing Man’s Best Friend for the first time on Blu-ray early next year. The special features have yet to be announced, but the complete release is currently in development, so we should know more soon. Until then, mark your calendars, since the Man’s Best Friend Scream Factory Blu-ray hits the streets March 12.

About Kevin Scott

Parents who were not film savvy and completely unprepared for choosing child appropriate viewing material were the catalyst that fueled my lifelong love affair with horror, exploitation, blaxploitation, low budget action, and pretty much anything that had to be turned off when my grandparents visited. I turned out okay for the most part, so how bad could all these films actually be?
