PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Sci-fi horror fans of post-apocalyptic films such as The Last Man on Earth (1964) and I Am Legend (2007) have something new to keep on their radar. However, it is not a virus that poses a threat in this upcoming feature, titled 1, but rather an alien invasion that has successfully taken the human population down to one sole survivor.
Australian native Dan Ewing (Home and Away) will be starring as Darren, a man plagued with guilt that embarks on a dangerous journey to find love and redemption while fighting to survive against all odds. Written by debut director Robert Braiden, 1 will shoot in South East Queensland. Having served as the location for films and series such as Terra Nova, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Thor: Ragnarok, incredible scenery can be expected.
“1 is unique in that it truly shows the very last person on earth,” said Braiden. “Literally no one else is left. Films such as The Quiet Earth, I Am Legend, The World The Flesh and The Devil all hint that they are last-person-on-earth films, yet all end up introducing other characters. 1 is different. From the action and dangerous excitement of high-speed racing to the quiet and solitude of the natural world, 1 will be a profoundly moving and powerful look at life, love, destiny and being able to let go of the material world in order to find new truths.”
With a subgenre filled with features of failed alien invasions, it will be interesting to see where Braiden takes this story of humankind facing near extinction. Sci-fi horror fans can look forward to an expected 2018 release through Traunt Productions.
