According to SciFiJapan, The Great Buddha Arrival has just gained a new star in Actor Akira Kubo! He is a veteran of films such as Throne of Blood (1957), Destroy All Monsters (1968), Sanjuana (1962), and the Lucky Seven TV series. The filmmakers shared some photos to celebrate when the actor started filming.

He joins the all-star ensemble cast for The Great Buddha Arrival, which is directed by debut feature filmmaker Hiroto Yokokawa. The cast includes legendary actor Akira Takarada (six Godzilla films, including the original), Peggy Neal (X From Outer Space 1967), Yukijiro Hotaru (Gamera trilogy, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack 2001), Ippei Ohsako and Inge Murata (both from Shin Godzilla 2016), Shelley Sweeney (four Godzilla films), Yuki Morita (Godzilla 2014), Norman England (two Godzilla films), Robert Scott Field (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah 1991), Masanori Kikuzawa (A Crimson Star 2018), J-Pop superstar Momoka Iwata, and rapper Yuma.

A 50 minute cut of the film was screened in Japan in December of 2018, and now the story is being reworked and additional scenes are being shot to bring the film to feature length for international distribution. The Great Buddha Arrival is getting closer to release, everyone!
