NC Teacher “Traumatizes” Students with Horror Videos

The latest case of a bone-headed public school teacher getting into hot water for showing students horror movies comes out of Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The 12-year-old son of Pamela and Daryll Packer returned home from Pine Forest Middle School claiming to have been “traumatized” by videos shown by his 6th grade Spanish Teacher.

News comes via WRAL.com; Pamela Parker told the station: “Jacob said they were required to watch these movies in class, and I said, ‘What kind of movies?’ and he said they were scary movies.”

The parents said they pulled the videos up online and watched them. One showed a little girl being lured to the kitchen in her home by a demonic figure using balloons and candy to get her to come downstairs, and the girl then sees the monster with her mother in a plastic bag.

The description above sounds like the recent short-horror hit The Smiling Man, a 3-minute video written and directed by A.J. Briones. The film has been viewed over 1.8 million times on CryptTV, the internet’s #1 source for original horror content.

Last month, we reported on a Tennessee high school teacher who showed his students the “torture porn” monstrosity The Human Centipede 2.  Last year, Ohio substitute Spanish teacher Sheila Kearns was charged with disseminating information harmful to minors for showing students The ABC’s of Death; Kearns actually served time for her “crime”.

While I’m obviously of the opinion that horror movies are fantastic and, ultimately, harmless, I’m flabbergasted by teachers who think these films are appropriate classroom materials.
