If electricity and equipment were not a problem, what five horror movies would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
We just had to start this with a difficult question…
-A Haunted House – the horror comedy because it still counts!
-Elvira Mistress of the Dark
-Shaun of the Dead
What is your limit when it comes to horror?
I can’t deal with torture porn because it seems like cheating. Scaring people is difficult, grossing them out is easy. Torture porn isn’t scary; it’s just a cheap way to make your stomach turn and disguising it as scary. Also, anything to do with kids, I have a hard time watching.
Other than horror, what is your favorite genre? What is your favorite non-horror movie or show?
I love comedy and horror comedy especially. But when I’m not watching horror, I’m usually watching my guilty pleasure… Asian drama shows. I love Korean dramas, Chinese dramas and Japanese dramas so much. Netflix has been kicking themselves into high gear, making Asian original dramas, too. One of my favorites is Kill Me, Heal Me. There are some really spooky ones too.
Favorite horror authors?
When I read, I don’t really read horror all that much, but I do enjoy David Moody quite a lot. But in terms of favorite authors, Christopher Moore cannot be beat.
Favorite horror novels/short stories?
I love Christopher Moore’s series Bloodsucking Fiends so much. There was once a story in a zombie anthology book called This Year’s Class Picture” by Dan Simmons about a teacher holed up in a school full of zombie children, and she was trying to find some semblance of humanity and who they were left inside of them. She would take class pictures, fight off hordes outside the school and hold class every day, and she finally saw something of hope in the end. I loved it.
Favorite movie directors?
I love John Carpenter movies and I will always have a soft spot for George A. Romero.
What horror movie have you seen the most times?
It may be a tie between the original Halloween and The Blair Witch Project, although I think the latter may win that fight.
Favorite horror musical?
Repo the Genetic Opera… there is something about it that can’t be duplicated. The Devil’s Carnival comes in a close second, but Repo wins the day on this one.
What are your favorite activities outside of writing about horror movies?
I love video games. I think I play more video games than watch horror movies, if I’m being honest.
What’s your favorite video game?
Any Resident Evil game or any Uncharted game. You could name one, and I love it. They both hold a special place for me, and I have played and replayed them more times than I can count.
What horror movies (or video game into movie) should not have been remade?
Halloween should not have been remade. There was no reason. And the Resident Evil movies are a travesty and an insult to the people who love the video games.
How long do you think you could survive in a horror film?
Oh, I’d die immediately. Or they’d keep me around for comic relief for more of the movie, and then kill me in a ridiculous way. Or I’d die in some dumb accident that I caused myself.
What is your favorite horror TV series?
That one is difficult. I love Supernatural (Team Dean 4Ever), but Holliston is my favorite horror show, with Todd and the Book of Pure Evil taking a close second. Supernatural gets third.
