The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening is a master at social parody, but he’s also pretty adept at historical satire. In his newest project, he goes way, way back with his new series, Disenchanted. It jousts at all things medieval by following Princess Bean, her elf sidekick, Elfo, and her personal demon (literally) named Luci. Along the way, they have to deal with not only all the mystical stuff like imps, trolls, ogres, harpies, and sprites, but also some really stupid, unwashed humans as well.
Matt Groening describes it as:
“Disenchantment is about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.”
Disenchanted features the voice talents of Abbi Jacobson (Broad City series) as Bean, Nat Faxon (Club Dread 2004) as Elfo, and Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show series) as Luci. Other voice actors are John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama), Billy West (Fry from Futurama), Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons), Maurice LaMarche (Pinky and the Brain), David Herman (Office Space 1999), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd series), Jeny Batten (Freak Like Tennessee series), Lucy Montgomery (The Tracey Ullman Show series) and The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding and Rich Fulcher. Futurama alums Rough Draft Studios are once again doing the animation. The series will premiere exclusively on Netflix on August 17.
