Ludo’s last release was 2010’s Prepare The Preparations… until now. This month the band released the single “Scare Me,” a creepy 80’s-ish ode to Halloween and haunted houses that’s equal parts Cyndi Lauper, The Killers, and Vincent Price. Check out what I thought about the song down below!
Two years ago the band announced a reunion show to celebrate 15 years as a band, and 10 years since their major label release, You’re Awful, I Love You. It was 2008’s Awfuland the single “Love Me Dead” that earned them spots on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and MTV’s Cribs. Their relentless touring for nearly a decade earned them a cult-like following – a following that not only survived, but grew, even though the band stopped playing in 2012. The reunion show dubbed “HalLUDOwen” sold out in an hour. They added a second show and it sold out even faster.
Ludo returned for HalLUDOween 2019, selling out three shows at The Pageant in their hometown of St. Louis. Fans came from all over the U.S. and Canada for a weekend full of costumes, meet & greets, live podcasts, and performances from other artists like Clownvis, and Tidal Volume. “We couldn’t believe all the fans that discovered us after we stopped playing,” says drummer Matt Palermo. “We thought these shows would be really fun for our fans from a decade ago, and they turned into something else.”
With Covid canceling plans for more Midwest shows as well as a 2020 edition of HalLUDOween, Singer Andrew Volpe, guitarist Tim Ferrell, Keyboardist Tim Convy, and Palermo took that energy and brought it to St. Louis’s Sawhorse Studios where they recorded “Scare Me.”
My thoughts on “Scare Me”
I live and breathe for Halloween and I personally think Ludo’s new song “Scare Me” is the perfect anthem for all things spooky and creepy. It’s fun, nostalgic, and something you can easily dance to. The lyrics and beats are super catchy and I found myself wanting to listen to it repeatedly.
I think movies and music are especially important this year for Halloween being that we can’t indulge in our normal outdoor festivities due to Covid-19. That being said, put on your best costumes, make your delicious popcorn and caramel apples, pull out the board games, watch your favorite iconic Halloween movies, and play “Scare Me” all night long!
Ludo released a lyric video for the song on their YouTube channel that should keep most fans occupied until 2021 when the band hopes to be back on stage armed with more new music. I hope you enjoy and Happy Halloween!
