Director James Quinn Unleashes Latest Project

James Quinn, founder of Sodom & Chimera Productions and director of the upcoming film Flesh of the Void, has released his latest project: a music video for death metal band Implore’s “Patterns to Follow.” The video was shot on 16mm film and boasts a similar style to Flesh of the Void. The video depicts three blind children who follow a hooded man through a forest – a man whose sinister intentions spell doom for the three children.

Here is what Quinn has to say about the video and his inspirations:

“The music video, or music short film, as I like to call it, is a personal, visual depiction of a subject that a lot of young people are fighting with in today’s society. I will leave it up to the viewer’s interpretation to find out what it is exactly. Just a tip: Read the lyrics of the song, which are presented in the video description.

“The visuals were heavily inspired by two very different things: For one, old horror films from the 20s and 30s, which often have a very intense sepia/black and white look; and on the other hand, the elegant and artful cinematography of Lars von Trier’s Antichrist. Combining these two and presenting them in CinemaScope was something that I’ve been wanting to do for quite a while, and finally got to, resulting in a film that has a grimy, grungy, vintage feel, yet packed in a look that appears very modern.”

I, for one, find Quinn’s visual style to be a breath of fresh air, and which definitely gets under the skin. Check out the music video below!

And while you’re at it, give the trailer for Flesh of the Void a spin.
