Introducing David Black’s ‘Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space’

Australian producer and actor David Black hasn’t let Stage 3 restrictions during the COVID pandemic slow him down. He’s been prolific in his output of eclectic short films this year, including Quest Of Questions, Babble On Babylon, Sinister Symbiosis, Klink, Klunk, Klonk, and Blargenfloof And The Seven Golden Shamrock. With that said, he obviously has a flair for titles.

His latest project, Toxic Zombie Babes From Outer Space, may just be his opus for B movie goodness. The poster art belongs in the lobby of a midnight movie showing or on a VHS box on the shelf right next to The Toxic Avenger. While filming in Australia under COVID restrictions, some of their innovative solutions to a limited crew and special effects budget only adds to the mythos of just how determined and passionate independent filmmakers can be.

Production shot of the flying saucers. The FX are a blend of green screen and other tricks, intended to emulate classic alien invasion vehicles of the golden age sci-fi/horror of the 50s & 60s.

The charm of a film like this is that there are absolutely no rules, and once you push Play, absolutely anything could—and probably would—happen. A movie like Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space is the only genre that is formulaic with being formulaic whatsoever. It sounds contradictory I know, but if you’re skeptical, here’s some test footage featured on the film’s Facebook page.

From the press release:

This has been quite a stressful time for everyone and David’s films are always a lot of fun. He has a wonderfully quirky sense of humor which really shines through in the script for Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space. It’s bound to a delight for the whole family (assuming of course that you’re a family of deranged lunatics.)

Toxic Alien Zombie Babes From Outer Space is a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi/horror that pays homage to past cult classics such as War of the Worlds, Plan 9 from Outer Space and Attack of the 50-Foot Woman. Originally, Black wanted to have appearances throughout the film by various stars of B grade movies but everyone he asked so far has knocked him back.

Director Gerardo Chierchia said:

“When David Black mentioned this project to me, I immediately saw the finished film in my head … during this period of covid-19, many have lost their jobs, including me … for this reason, I looked for something to commit to and keep myself creative … I know David and his way of organizing and producing the films … it’s a great adventure, but with the help of many around the world … I’m sure the film will be interesting …. this period will be a time we will never forget … what better way to put ourselves on the inside of our memories than by making a film for us and for the future?”

About Kevin Scott

Parents who were not film savvy and completely unprepared for choosing child appropriate viewing material were the catalyst that fueled my lifelong love affair with horror, exploitation, blaxploitation, low budget action, and pretty much anything that had to be turned off when my grandparents visited. I turned out okay for the most part, so how bad could all these films actually be?
