The internet and social media have forever changed what it means to be a horror fan. One of the most awesome perks is that a fan can evolve into a journalist, and then maybe a director or a producer. Believe it or not, but just a few decades ago, the new Halloween film was produced by Ryan Turek, a lifelong fan and former journalist. Chris Alexander, former editor at Fangoria and writer at Shock Til You Drop, has signed on to direct Cristina. It’s a demonic possession film centering around a young woman whose Satanist father summoned a demonic entity that has followed her since childhood. We’ve already announced that the film will begin shooting soon, and now we’ve got a quote directly from the director himself.
“I’m thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to bring Cristina’s story to life. I have long had a special interest featuring strong women leads while taking on projects that explore complex psychological and supernatural states of mind in characters. ‘Cristina’ is a fascinating and terrifying amalgam of classic theological horror films like ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist,’ but armed with a hefty dose of surrealism. It ultimately tells an intimate portrait of a woman pushed to the edge and beyond.”
Heather Thompson, a veteran freelance writer, is penning the screenplay, and IndustryWorks Studios will produce and distribute the film. Principal photography will begin in Vancouver this spring. Cristina will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival this year. Congrats to Chris Alexander!
