‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Will film in Salem and Stream on Disney+

Director Adam Shankman (A Walk to Remember) is headed to where else but Salem Massachusetts to film the follow up to maybe one of the most influential gateway horror films ever. Hocus Pocus first graced screens in July of 1993. It had everything that made it the perfect first horror film. It was written by Mick Garris, the driving force behind Masters of Horror, countless King adaptions, and the Post Mortem Podcast, and it was a Disney film. Maybe the last holdover of the subversive so-called Disney “family” films that flew under the parental radar and detonated an atom bomb of kindertrauma on a generation or two with one fell swoop.

The details of Hocus Pocus 2 are sparse at this point. Filming will be in Salem, Massachusetts, and then stream on Disney +. The big question is if any of the original cast members will be returning. Bette Midler (The Addams Family, Ruthless People) Sarah Jessica Parker (Footloose, Sex and the City), and Kathy Najimy (King of the Hill), played a trio or resurrected witches awakened by the new kid in town, Omri Katz (Eerie, Indiana). The upside is that none have flat out refused, and at this point, it remains a possibility. Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics) penned the sequel’s script.

About Kevin Scott

Parents who were not film savvy and completely unprepared for choosing child appropriate viewing material were the catalyst that fueled my lifelong love affair with horror, exploitation, blaxploitation, low budget action, and pretty much anything that had to be turned off when my grandparents visited. I turned out okay for the most part, so how bad could all these films actually be?
