Happy Birthday to Kate Beckinsale!

PopHorror would like to take this opportunity to wish a very happy birthday to the lovely and talented Kate Beckinsale! Kathrin Romany Beckinsale was born on this day in 1973 in Finsbury Park, England. Happy 44th birthday, Kate! We love you in, well…everything!

The Eyes Have It…

When you hear the words “Scream Queen” you don’t generally think of Kate Beckinsale, but she’s done her fair share of Horror over the years. Kate appeared in Haunted back in 1995 at the tender age of 22. After hitting it big with blockbusters like Pearl Harbor and Serendipity, Beckinsale appeared in Underworld in 2003.

The first film in the vampires vs. werewolves series, Underworld went on to spawn 4 sequels (so far) in a franchise that’s grossed more than a half a billion dollars worldwide! Kate won a Scream Award in 2006 for Underworld: Evolution (Best Scream Queen) for her portrayal of Selene.

One year after Underworld, Kate appeared in Van Helsing. It was, frankly, terrible, but she was easily the best thing in it. After trying a little comedy turn with Adam Sandler (Click), Beckinsale starred with Luke Wilson in the Home Invasion (Motel Invasion) horror film Vacancy. This period may have been a career mistake, because playing characters married to Luke Wilson and Adam Sandler made a lot of us average guys feel like we might actually have a shot! Bad move, Kate!

So you’re telling me there’s a chance!

Kate Beckinsale appeared in the winter horror themed Whiteout in 2009. Again, not a great film, but she stood out as the best thing in it. In 2014 she did Stonehearst Asylum. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. We even featured it in our 11 Horrifying Hospitals in Horror feature. It’s pretty creepy!

Is it any wonder Kate Beckinsale is one of our all time favorite Vampires? And not just because she doesn’t sparkle! Happy birthday, Kate, from all of us at PopHorror! We can’t wait to see what you do next!

What’s your favorite Kate Beckinsale film? Tell us in the comments!
