PopHorror would like to wish a very happy birthday to America’s favorite every man, John Cusack! John was born in Evanston, Illinois (I wonder how far that is from Haddonfield?) on June 28, 1966. Happy 51st birthday, John! Quoth the Raven: “And many more!”
John Cusack made a career as an average Joe –the lovable guy next door. Who doesn’t remember him from 80’s classics like Better Off Dead, Say Anything, and One Crazy Summer? Let’s face it. We all grew up cheering for John Cusack.
John’s no stranger to horror circles, either. He’s appeared in a number of genre films over the years. The first one that comes to mind for me is Identity (2003). Ten strangers find themselves stranded in a Nevada hotel in a blinding rain storm with a killer among them. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a modern classic!
Four years later Cusack would appear in Stephen King’s 1408. Hey, John’s not the only one celebrating a milestone here. 1408, coincidentally, just turned 10 years old this week! Another solid horror effort, despite being PG-13. Highly recommended!
In 2012, Cusack took a turn as Edgar Allan Poe in The Raven. Hey, they can’t all be winners, right? The Raven got a “nevermore” from critics with a 22% Rotten Tomatoes rating. John might want a Cask of Amontillado after reading those reviews!
Most recently John appeared in another Stephen King adaptation: Cell. I reviewed it for PopHorror and I honestly didn’t think it was too bad. Cusack is definitely one of the highlights of the film!
John Cusack will be appearing at the Salt Lake City Comic Con this September. In the meantime you can follow John’s escapades on Twitter and on Facebook.
Happy birthday, John, from all of us at PopHorror! You’re still one of America’s Sweethearts!
