I’ve always had a special soft spot for holiday horror, and luckily there’s never ever a shortage of festive frights. But while Halloween and Christmas have always understandably gotten the lion’s share of attention, a few holidays have been largely neglected. Well, writer/director Eben McGarr is looking to shine the menorah light bright on one of those sorely overlooked celebrations with his new film Hanukkah, and if the official trailer below is any indication, this is gonna be a very dark and demented 8 crazy nights!!

McGarr (House of the Wolf Man, Sick Girl) has put together a pretty unique and twisted story line, and has assembled a phenomenal all-star cast to die for for Hanukkah, including the legendary Sid Haig (House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects), Charles Fleischer (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Joe Knetter (Death House, Monsterland), Caroline Williams (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2), P.J. Soles (Halloween, Carrie), Sadie Katz (Blood Feast, Bus Party to Hell), Sarah French (Ouija House, Rootwood), and Victoria De Mare (Evil Bong 666, Hell’s Kitty), just to name a few.
Official Synopsis for Hanukkah :
Obediah Lazarus is the son of Judah Lazarus, the original Hanukiller. In 1983, Judah terrorized NY for seven nights and was preparing to sacrifice his eight year old son, Obediah, on the eighth night. Judah was convinced it was God’s will, like Abraham and Isaac, to sacrifice his only son to God. Luckily for Obediah, police tracked Judah down and stopped the sacrifice, but Judah was gunned down in the process.
Warped by hatred with no guidance, Obediah Lazarus becomes a religious extremist, intolerant of non-Jews, “bad Jews”, and those he perceives to be enemies of the Jewish faith. He is about to unleash eight nights of horror. A group of Jewish teens are getting ready to party for the holidays, but are in for a Festival of Frights. With the help of a wise Rabbi, they deduce that the murder victims have violated Judaic law and that their only chance at survival is to embrace their faith.

Hanukkah will be looking to inject a little extra chutzpah into your holiday season and from everything we’ve seen thus far, I for one can’t wait! Stay tuned to PopHorror for any further details about Hanukkah as they emerge.
