General Mills Monster Cereals Series Coming Soon from Fright Rags!

Here’s something for fans of horror and pop culture: Fright Rags, purveyors of high quality horror-themed graphic tees, will be releasing a series based on General Mills goofy Monster Cereals. You remember the commercials from your childhood right? I’m talking about Count Chocula, FrankenBerry, and Boo-Berry. Some of the shirts even come with masks!

Ben from Fright Rags sent out the details this morning:

Like pretty much every kid, I spent the vast majority of mornings of my childhood eating sugary cereals for breakfast. Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Trix, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Shredded Whe—no wait, screw that cereal. But when the summer drew to close, and school was about to start, I knew it was almost time…for MONSTER CEREALS!

Each year, when General Mills unleashed their monster cereals, it was a mad dash to grab our favorite ones. I always got at least one (if not two) boxes of Count Chocula and Frankenberry. More elusive was Boo Berry, as the stores around me never carried it. I would have to wait until we visited my grandma, who lived in a very small town about three hours North (Loweville, NY), because the local P&C Food Market always seemed to have it in stock. While these days it’s much easier to find, Boo Berry has always been considered a treat in my household. And forget about Frute Brute or Yummy Mummy….I didn’t even know those existed back then!

For a t-shirt company that focuses on horror, the pairing of Monster Cereals and Fright-Rags is a match made in sugary heaven. However, it has literally been years in the making from just making initial contact, to designing, creating, and planning this release – and it has been fraught with setbacks. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure we’d be able to get these out for Halloween, which would have been a major bummer. However, we kept at it and ready to launch just in time (even though some items will be on pre-order). With that, I am extremely pleased with the way everything has turned out, and we (and the amazing people at General Mills) couldn’t be more excited to finally launch this new collection!

For our first series, we’ve decided to focus on classic versions of the “big three”; Count Chocula, Frankenberry, and Boo Berry. We wanted each shirt to have a vintage, classic look and feel that recalls a simpler, more magical time in our lives. However, we do have this license for awhile, so plan on more releases in the next few years as we will explore more ideas and products for these monsters – and YES- Frute Brute and Yummy Mummy are coming 🙂
