’30 Years of Garbage: The Garbage Pail Kids Story’ Documentary

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original release of The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, Indican Pictures is releasing 30 Years of Garbage: The Garbage Pail Kids Story. The documentary will revisit the artists who made the collectible cards and its following movie famous. It will show a rare glimpse into the corporate culture of Topps as they launched the Garbage Pail Kids through the height of the card’s fame, the downfall from the legal battle with the Cabbage Patch Kids and their untimely demise.

Containing interviews with over half a dozen artists, viewers will get to see the inside story at what each card was poking fun at. There will also be a look back at the 1987 film The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, along with interviews of Mackenzie Astin, Debbie Lee Carrington, Pulitzer Prize winning artist Art Spiegelman, Pumpkinhead screenwriter Gary Gerani, comic book artists Tom Bunk and John Pound, and TV producer Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs). The film will also include looks at collectors of the cards who share their nostalgic memories and collections.

30 Years of Garbage: The Garbage Pail Kids Story will hit select theaters August 18th, with a nationwide release coming September 20th. Do you remember these infamous collectibles? Do you still have any of the cards? Let us know in the comments, and check out the trailer for the documentary below!

About Matt Stumpf

My name's Matt, and I love all things horror. Books, movies, video games; you name it, I like it. Martyrs is my favorite horror film, and everyone should watch it. I also have a soft-spot for those cheesy 80's slashers. I'm still slightly convinced that Faces of Death is real.
