USA Today’s bestselling author, Darcy Coates, seamlessly combines the intense creepiness of a classic ghost story with a deadly mystery. Her new book, The Whispering Dead, is the first in a brand new Gravekeeper Series. This book is perfect for anyone who loves a strong character lead, a compelling and thrilling story, a horrific and vivid atmosphere with several twists and turns along the way that will have you flipping through the pages.
Synopsis for The Whispering Dead
“I’m in a forest and I’m hurt. What happened?”
Homeless, hunted, and desperate to escape a bitter storm, Keira takes refuge in an abandoned groundskeeper’s cottage. Her new home is tucked away at the edge of a cemetery, surrounded on all sides by gravestones: some recent, some hundreds of years old, all suffering from neglect. And in the darkness, she can hear the unquiet dead whispering.
The cemetery is alive with faint, spectral shapes, led by a woman who died before her time…and Keira, the only person who can see her, has become her new target. Determined to help put the ghost to rest, Keira digs into the spirit’s past life with the help of unlikely new friends, and discovers a history of deception, ill-fated love, and murder.
My typical reads typically range from YA, Horror, and Fantasy. This was my first time reading anything from Darcy Coates and she made a fan out of me with The Whispering Dead. It’s very well-written and detailed, which helped give a visual of the characters and the mysteriously haunting atmosphere that horror fans will eat up. I couldn’t put it down and look forward to the next book. I HATE waiting, lol.
Stay tuned for a more thorough review later this month. The Whispering Dead is now available to own from Poisoned Pen Press and I highly recommend adding it to your collection if you love all things spooky and a story that will captivate from beginning to end.
