WE REVEL IN DARKNESS
For most horror fans like me, the majority of my closet is full of black clothing. All Black Everything is pretty much my motto (for the most part, but I do love my gaming gear), and I am always on the lookout for new and interesting alternative and Goth clothing brands. One of the more prominent and interesting clothing brands I’ve seen is a company called Malefic Apparel. We were lucky enough to get a HUGE apparel haul from them for this month, and I can’t wait to tell you about it.
Merriam-Webster defines malefic as “causing or capable of causing harm or destruction, especially by supernatural means.” Malefic Apparel works to make a statement with its clothing. They strive for you to:
BE SEEN, BE OBSCENE, BE HEARD, BE MALEFIC and BE DEFIANT UNTIL DEATH
Before we get started, I would like to say a give a huge thank you to Malefic Apparel for sending this box for me to open and try for you. And there is a special coupon code for you guys at the end of the article, as well!
When I saw the box this all came in, I literally screamed out loud from excitement. Getting a box in the mail is always great, but getting a COFFIN shaped box in the mail is a damn delight. It was just that little extra that made the experience really cool, but their attention to detail doesn’t stop there. You can tell that Malefic Apparel really cares about the details for their customers. I’d also like to mention that at the base of the neck on every t-shirt, Malefic Apparel has printed their name as well which is a REALLY cool touch. You can watch my unboxing video below or read on for a more detailed description of each item.
Let’s break down each item sent, go over fabric quality, sizing and fit quality, and finally the quality of the print on the shirt. Want to see what it looks like when an awkward person “models?” Well, your wait is over…
The first thing I noticed was that each shirt was packaged in its own little biohazard waste bag. Each shiny red bag is labeled with the name of the t-shirt or jacket and houses the item perfectly. Never in all of my online shopping days have I ever seen such small details that add up to so much. Not only was the bag special, but there was even a tag on the clothing item itself… a toe tag with your name on it. They are pinned in instead of through the plastic, which could damage your clothing. All clothing tags are printed on the items instead of sewn on and itching your neck. That alone would make me buy them, and that’s before we even get into the clothing quality.
I also have to say I love the color saturation of all of the items in the box.
Vampira Custom Tank
The black color of this gorgeous Vampira tank is deep and noticeable. The tank top fabric is thinner than your basic t-shirt, but it doesn’t sacrifice the item’s feel. It also doesn’t feel like that wispy cotton that will continue to stretch and thin over time, but it is a bit more sheer, which will feel great in the summer. This shirt is an XL and fits wonderfully (a nice feminine fit) through the torso and hips but hangs wide in the armpit area. That can easily be remedied by layering it with a long sleeve, tank top, bandeau or bralette underneath. This one is from their Horror collection.
Limited Edition Terror Tag
This is, by far, the item that I was the most excited to pull out of the box. On this shirt is a line from one of my all time favorite movies, the 1986 film The Worst Witch with Tim Curry and Fairuza Balk. Terror Tag was a game they played in the film, and the line, “Everyone knows how to play Terror Tag,” was spoken by snooty bitch and cheater extraordinaire Ethel Hallow. This shirt is an XL men’s cut and feels amazing. The print is solid but not scratchy. The fabric is soft and the fit in this size is loose but not unflattering.
Season of the Witch
Since women’s cut shirts tend to run at least a size smaller, this shirt is a 2X and fits just a bit small, but not to the point of discomfort. The design is simple and Gothic and reminds me of one of my favorite Ghost songs (that I brain-farted in the video… sigh) called “Monstrance Clock.” If you are chesty like me, your candles will probably lean all wonky. It is made of the regular t-shirt material and feels super soft. You can find this item on the Witchy side of the website.
This is another men’s cut in the size XL. I have a tendency to wear my shirts a little baggier for comfort. Comfort is the keyword here. I fell in love with the Malefic Apparel t-shirts when I got their very popular “Blessed are the Destroyers of False Hope” shirt, and it immediately became one of my favorites. The shirt has a simple design of a shadowy Lucifer figure and a big Sigil of Lucifer on the front. This item is another favorite of mine right out of the box. You can find it in the Ritual side of the site.
This picture also reminds everyone that I suck at being a model… NEXT!
This beautiful, dark design features an old image for Chopin’s “Funeral March” from Eclipse Publishing. The print feels so thin, and that’s a compliment. It looks old and distressed and portrays a mood. The shirt is that 100% cotton that is so soft and fits great. This design also comes in a tank top and dress.
This men’s cut t-shirt is part of Malefic Apparel’s Serial Killers collection, and it shows a dark and morbid menu for Jeffrey Dahmer’s fictional deli. It is a large and is more form fitting for someone of my size, but not uncomfortable. Some may think this one is in bad taste, but others will enjoy the dark humor… you decide. If you have true crime-obsessed person in your life, this is a great design for them although not for the faint of heart. Tell ‘em Jeff sent ya!
This is another large men’s cut t-shirt from their Serial Killers collection. This features a red Rise on the front (one of the words members of Charles Manson’s Family wrote on the walls in blood during the Tate-LaBianca murders from 1969) and a Manson quote on the back: “If you’re going to do something, do it well, and leave something witchy.” The print is thin and red, so against the intense black, it can be a bit dark and hard to see, but personally, I like that. It gives the quote more depth and is much better than the stark red of a traffic light.
Creepy Sexy Ghoul Hoodie
This zip up hoodie is the same soft material as the t-shirt and fits SO well. This size is an XL and it feels wonderful. It is great for days that are chilly, but the thinner fabric means you won’t overheat. It is perfect for layering, and the sleeves are nice and long, which is convenient for those that like to create a thumb hole. The Malefic Apparel brand name is seen on the front with the design of a glammed up Karen Cooper on the back along with the words “Creepy Sexy Ghoul.”
And that was everything in the amazing coffin shaped box from Malefic Apparel. I LOVE the clothing from this company. It’s all soft, well-fitted, and quality clothing (AND BIOHAZARD BAGS!!!), and you can tell the amount of care that goes into the designs and packaging. Let’s not forget the dark theme to it all. The amazing horror elements throughout this box are endearing to my dead little heart.
Don’t forget… PopHorror readers and viewers wanting their own Malefic Apparel box can use the code POPHORROR at checkout to get 15% off your first order… just in time for the holidays. Give a little darkness this season from Malefic Apparel and we will see you all on the next unboxing!
