That sneaky, sneaky Eli Roth! While we horror fans were all clamoring over the cast list for the IT remake and binging on the Netflix Original series Stranger Things, the Cabin Fever director was flying under the radar, creating a brand new Sci Fi Horror film called Mission: Fear. Check out the teaser trailer!
I must admit, there’s not much going in this here trailer. All we get is a recap of Roth’s most popular horror movies, a shot of a technicolor space nebula and a release date of April 2017. It’s the teaser trailer to end all teaser trailers. After months of silence, a plain Jane trailer with a halted voice over is just enough to get genre fans salivating. In the age of instant access, Facebook and Instagram, how has nothing slipped out in horror circles about the creation and filming of this mysterious movie? What, pray tell, is Mission: Fear? Is it a straight up horror movie? Will there be aliens? What is the mission and why should we fear it? Let the theories and predictions fly!
It’s well known by Roth fans that the Boston, Massachusetts native found his love for horror after watching Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) when he was eight years old, a film that made him so nervous he actually puked after watching it. Could this be a tribute to the movie that birthed the director’s love for the more gruesome? Or could the space background be a red herring, added only to confuse and deter potential Mission: Fear plot guesses? It’s not like missions only happen off-planet. Like the trailer says, he’s brought us camping in the woods, warned us about European hostels and made us think twice about saving the rain forests. What could possibly be next?
Looks like we’re waiting until next April to find out. Unless you know and you want to share, of course. Give us your ideas and rumors in the comments!
