Oh, the nostalgic feels I get whenever I see Dimension Films flash across the screen of a movie I am about ready to watch. When I heard they began production on a new horror thriller, as corny as it sounds, my heart felt full. Dimension Films are known for several amazing horror movies such as Wes Craven’s Scream (1996), From Dusk til Dawn (1996), Death Proof (2007), and The Mist (2007)… just to name a few. Something tells me that Dimension Films new film, Polaroid, will soon be joining that list.
Based on Norwegian writer/director Lars Klevberg’s 16-minute short film (trailer shown above), Polaroid will now be turned into a full-length feature after receiving critical praise from the film festival circuit. It is still to be directed by Lars Klevberg (Child’s Play 2019), however, the screenplay is being adapted by Blair Butler (Halo 4 Championships). It is set to star Javier Botet known as the Crooked Man in 2016’s The Conjuring 2 and also known as Mama in 2013’s Mama. The cast also includes Samantha Logan (666 Park Ave) and Priscilla Quintana (Masters of Sex)
The Official Synopsis of Polaroid:
“Polaroid is styled in the vein of The Ring and Final Destination and centers on a high school loner, Bird Fitcher, who stumbles upon a vintage Polaroid camera. Bird soon learns that the camera houses a terrible secret: whoever has their picture taken by it meets a tragic and violent end. The girl and her friends must survive one more night as they race to solve the mystery of the haunted Polaroid before it kills them all.“
Final Thoughts:
Hearing that this film mixes elements from The Ring and Final Destination is pretty exciting stuff. I have not personally seen the 16 minute short, but you bet I will now. I, for one, cannot wait for the trailer to drop. As of right now, the film is set to be released on August 17, 2017. Stay tuned to PopHorror for more updates and news about Polaroid!
