Constantine Returns In New Animated Series

The Hellblazer is back in business. John Constantine will grace our presence once more as an animated series featured on the CW Seed. Constantine was originally a live action show that premiered on NBC. It ran from October 24, 2014 to February 13, 2015, but the show was canceled after the first season due to poor ratings. There was a bid to save the show that was lead by Stephen Amell (Arrow) to have the CW take the show on in its normal broadcast. The CW did not pick up the show at that time.

Constantine is based on the Vertigo comics, a DC affiliate that focuses on the main character John Constantine. The comic is about the foul-mouth British occult detective John Constantine; the series revolved around John coming back from a mental institution after he sent a girl to hell and damned his soul in the process. Constantine battles demons and other evil entities in the first season. The animated series will pick off where it left off.

It was announced on January 8th, 2016 during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that Constantine would be brought back as an animated series. The series will feature the original Constantine – Matt Ryan. The series creator David S. Goyer will return as an executive producer along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Both of the producers helm the current superhero shows on the CW.

It will return on the CW Seed, which is a streaming service that currently holds other animated superhero-themed shows. Matt Ryan is not only returning to the animated show but will also portray Constantine in season four of Arrow, bringing him in the cannon with the other superhero shows on the CW, and is also starring in the new animated movie Justice League Dark. Constantine will air later in 2017, is anyone excited for it?
