Jordan Peele has been on fire lately. Hot on the successful heels of Get Out, US, and the new Twilight Zone, the Academy Award winning writer/director is bringing a 1990’s horror icon back to the big screen. Peele’s Candyman is currently in production and slated for a June, 2020 release. A “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 original, the story returns to Chicago where the legend began.
We’ve been anxiously awaiting Candyman news and today it finally came in the form of a new poster and teaser trailer. Watch the teaser trailer below, then read on for the poster and all the details!
In Jordan Peele’s Candyman, the fearsome tortured soul returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where his legend began. So who did they find to fill Tony Todd’s big shoes? None other than rising star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The menacing Aquaman villain will pick up where Todd left off and Chicagoans should be very, very afraid!
What else do we know?
Production is underway, and may actually be completed. Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld wrote the screenplay. Little Woods director Nia DaCosta is directing. Teyonah Parris will star alongside Abdul-Mateen II. MGM, Universal, and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are teaming up to produce and distribute the film.
Check out the official poster below!
This is great! I love the poster and I’m very excited about the casting. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was one bad mofo in Aquaman. I think the character is in good hands. Even more great news: according to IMDB, Tony Todd is back and playing a character named “Stix.” How cool is that?
So what do you think, horror fam? Did you like the poster and the teaser trailer? Are you looking forward to Jordan Peele’s Candyman in June? Tell us in the comments!
