Behold! Check out Bill Skarsgård clowning around in full costume as Pennywise, the evil clown from Stephen King’s IT, coming out next September.
Weeks ago, we were teased with a close-up of Skarsgård in full face make-up. Now, we get to see him in all of his monstrous glory. As you can see, the outfit has a somewhat more archaic look – much different than Tim Curry’s colorful clown costume. The hair, while still big and red with a receded hairline, is straight and more demon-like. Curry’s hair was fairly simple; a bit fluffy and more relaxed. Director Andy Muschietti tasked Emmy-winning costume designer Janie Bryant (Deadwood, Mad Men) with developing this clown costume that blends trends from Medieval, Victorian, Elizabethan, and Renaissance eras. EW has the full breakdown of Pennywise’s clothing and why this supernatural monster that feeds on children would choose such attire.
It’s to be expected that die-hard fans of Tim Curry’s version of Pennywise are going to cry foul. One has to understand that this is a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, IT, and not a remake of the 2-part miniseries that aired almost 30 years ago. It is a new time and this new film calls for something distinct. I find it to be perfect. What do you think? Let us know!
