Last year, it was announced that Anne Rice has the rights back for her Vampire Chronicles. This news excited every fan girl and boy out there. Rice then went on to further excite her fans stating:
“In this unique golden age of television, I couldn’t ask for a finer or more passionate team to help bring my beloved vampire hero, Lestat, alive in a series of the highest quality.”
This week, Rice, who is very active with her fans on Facebook, posted the following:
Anne here: Guys, we talk a lot about who can play Lestat. And we all know that if we don’t get that right, nothing else may matter. This is one series in which the star plays a super hero role. I am thinking an unknown will come to us for the part. But who are the up and coming young actors you all see and want to suggest? Include pix if you can. And any data. I love reading your responses. And yes, we’ve done this before with less focus perhaps on “up and coming.” But let’s do it again.
The post has over 1,000 comments so far. Some of the top choices are Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Bill Skarsgard (IT), Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy).
Lestat has been brought to the big screen twice.
1994’s Interview with the Vampire by Tom Cruise.
2002’s Queen of the Damned by Stuart Townsend.
The rights to the franchise have been optioned by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. Both Anne and her son Christopher will both write and produce the series, along with David Kanter and Steve Golin. In January, Anne discussed the format of the show in an Q & A.
Who is your pick to play Lestat? More details to come! Stay tuned to PopHorror for more info!
